To The Isis Within
(To Sally Purcell, with gratitude and admiration)

- Where do you go,
alone on the mountain?
- I fear not the night
for I carry the sun.
- Where do you go,
with a god as your husband,
Glorious mother
Of a god, your creator?
What will you do
If the day draws to dark
and night overtakes you
alone on the mountain?
- I fear not the night
for I carry the sun.
- I look at the stars
and they bring back my sadness,
but your eyes they shine
and are brighter by far.
The stars and the darkness
they rise now before us,
and daylight is hidden now
far from your face.
- I fear not the night
for I carry the sun.
